The Circuit of the Americas puts a blind uphill first corner and a high-speed esses complex into one lap — in Texas heat, over six hours.

What it is

  • 5.513 km, 20 corners
  • Turn 1 climbs roughly 30 meters and is taken blind
  • The esses in sector 1 are modeled on the Maggotts–Becketts sequence
  • Ground movement has created pronounced bumps in several braking zones

What it demands

Sector 1 decides the lap. The climb into Turn 1 and the esses that follow need a car that changes direction without hesitation, and any setup that sacrifices front-end response for straight-line stability shows up immediately in the sector times.

Heat is the second variable. Cooling packages run near their limit, and the long right-hand loading in the back half of the lap heats the left-side tyres far more than the right. Cars that look strong in the first hour often fade in the third.

The bumps matter more for prototypes than for GT cars: low ride heights and stiff platforms translate every ground movement into a lost apex, which is where the class pace gap in our data narrows here compared with smoother tracks.
