What it demands
Thin air removes downforce and cooling at the same time. Wings are run at angles that would be unthinkable elsewhere and still produce less grip, while radiators and brake ducts move fewer kilograms of air per second than the same parts do at Spa.
Naturally aspirated engines lose power outright; turbocharged and hybrid packages lose less but ask more of their cooling. That split is one of the few places in the calendar where engine concept, not chassis, sets the pecking order.
For drivers the consequence is a car that is fast in a straight line and reluctant in slow corners — a combination that makes the stadium section, taken at low speed with almost no aerodynamic help, the hardest part of the lap.
