Every month brings a new list of the “best AI image generators”, and no two of them agree. So we did not add another opinion. We counted.
For this list we took seven published rankings: one blind comparison, in which people vote without knowing which model made which picture, five editorial lists and one list from an API provider. Then we checked which tools each of them puts in its top ten. The more rankings name a tool, the higher it stands here. When two tools are named equally often, the one with the better average place comes first.
We have not tested these tools ourselves. This is a count of what others rank, and every source is listed below.
The top 10
1. ChatGPT (GPT Image)
The image generator most rankings put first. You describe the picture in plain language and refine it in the same chat, and it handles text inside images well. A good default if you want one tool for writing and images.
Use ChatGPT to answer questions, write, create images, complete work, and code—all in one place. Get started for free or download the app.

2. Google Gemini (Nano Banana)
Google’s answer to ChatGPT for images. Strong at editing an existing photo step by step while keeping people and objects consistent. A natural choice if you already work in Google’s apps.
With Nano Banana 2, Gemini's AI image generator and photo editor, you can create high-quality images and edit photos into countless new creations.

3. FLUX (Black Forest Labs)
A family of image models from a German lab, known for photorealism. There is no classic consumer app: you use FLUX through its API, inside other tools, or run the open-weight versions yourself. Best for developers and teams that want control.
Black Forest Labs is building visual intelligence: models that understand, reason, and act in the world. Use FLUX models via our API.

4. Ideogram
The specialist for images that contain words. Posters, headlines and wordmarks come out readable more often than with general tools. Worth a look when typography matters more than photorealism.
Use purpose-built AI apps, access major image and video models through one API, and build on Ideogram 4.0, our open model.

5. Recraft
Built for design work rather than for single pictures. It creates logos, icons and illustrations as real vector files and keeps one style across a whole set. Useful for brand assets.
Recraft is a top-ranked text-to-image model and design platform for photorealism, vector generation, custom styles, mockups, and more

6. Midjourney
The reference for artistic image quality. Rankings praise its textures, lighting and recognizable style; they also note that it is weaker at text inside images. A tool for mood, concept art and visuals with character.
An independent research lab exploring new mediums of thought and expanding the imaginative powers of the human species.

7. Adobe Firefly
Adobe’s generator, positioned as safe for commercial use because its own models are trained on licensed content. The main advantage is the integration: you generate and edit inside Photoshop and Premiere. It appears on both our image list and our video list.
Firefly gives you the speed, control, and creative freedom to go from idea to high-quality content. Generate images, video, audio and more with 30+ AI models, all in one place.

8. Grok Imagine (xAI)
The image and video feature of the Grok assistant. It ranks high in blind comparisons of image quality and is fast. It is named mostly by leaderboards, less often by editorial lists.
Grok is an AI assistant built by SpaceXSI. Chat, create images, write code, and get real-time answers from the web and X.

9. Meta AI
Meta’s assistant with built-in image generation, available where many people already are: WhatsApp, Instagram and the web. Easy to try; aimed at quick social content rather than production work.
Use Meta AI to get things done. Create AI-generated images for free, edit photos, shop, find places to go, and get answers to any question. Start now.

10. Seedream (ByteDance)
The image model from the company behind TikTok. It scores well in blind comparisons and can work from several reference images at once. In Western rankings it appears mainly on leaderboards.
Create AI video, image, and short drama with Dreamina for ads, social content, product visuals, and visual storytelling. Powered by leading AI models including Seedream, Seedance, GPT Image, Sora, and more.

What the count shows
Two tools are on all seven lists: ChatGPT is first on six of them, Google Gemini is second on six. Behind them the picture splits, and the split is the most useful thing the count shows.
Editorial lists reward tools with a clear job. Ideogram is on six lists because of text inside images, Recraft because of vector files, Adobe Firefly because it lives inside Photoshop. None of the three is in the top ten of the blind comparison.
The blind comparison rewards raw image quality. It ranks models from large labs — Grok Imagine, Meta AI, Seedream — that most editorial lists do not mention at all. Midjourney is missing there for a simple reason: it offers no API, so it cannot take part.
So a high place here means “many reviewers recommend it”, not “it makes the best picture”. Which of the two matters more depends on your work.
